HUNTINGTON - A woman is suing Huntington Dermatology Inc. after her daughter was allegedly misdiagnosed with psoriasis instead of scabies.
Drs. Susan Abraham Touma and Nazem Abraham; and Darci Barger, a physician's assistant, were also named as defendants in the suit.
On Aug. 26, 2011, Angela Renee Gibson presented to the defendants for complaints of extreme dryness, redness and itching of the scalp, left elbow and both feet, according to a complaint filed July 17 in Cabell Circuit Court.
Karen L. Gibson claims Angela Gibson also complained of extreme dryness and peeling of her nails.
Barger diagnosed Angela Gibson as having psoriasis and prescribed a cream, according to the suit, and when she returned on Sept. 23, 2011, and Oct. 21, 2011, the defendants prescribed other medications that did not help her problem.
Karen Gibson claims Angela Gibson's symptoms progressed and on Oct. 24, 2011, she began to experience left arm weakness and difficulty walking and became unresponsive and was taken to the hospital, where she was diagnosed as having suffered a stroke and a seizure disorder.
On Dec. 9, 2011, Angela Gibson was correctly diagnosed by Dr. Stephen Milroy as having scabies, according to the suit.
Karen Gibson claims the defendants negligently failed to properly diagnosed Angela Gibson and, as a result, she has been left with permanent neurological injuries.
The defendants actions were willful, wanton, careless and/or were taken with reckless disregard, according to the suit.
Karen Gibson is seeking compensatory and punitive damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. She is being represented by P. Rodney Jackson.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge David M. Pancake.
