FAYETTEVILLE - A nursing home is being sued over claims a resident died from an untreated sepsis infection.

Fayette County resident Geneva Thomas, on behalf of the estate of her deceased husband Ralph C. Thomas, filed a wrongful death suit on June 10 in the Circuit Court of Fayette County against Fayette Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Wisteria LLC.

Geneva Thomas says on May 18, 2012, her husband died after contracting pneumonia, a urinary tract infection and sepsis, while residing in Fayette Nursing Home from April 18, 2012 to May 18, 2012.

According to the brief, the facility's negligence, including failure to provide proper catheter care, caused her husband pain and suffering and eventual death.

The estate is seeking attorneys fees, court costs and punitive damages. It is being represented in the case by Charleston attorney Andrew Paternostro of the Bell Law Firm.
