BECKLEY - A Fayette County woman is suing over claims that doctors working at a federally supported health center in Beckley failed to properly treat and diagnose her.
Fayette County resident Penny Browning filed a lawsuit on Aug. 19 in the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia at Beckley, against the United States of America, citing negligence.
Browning says from Oct. 8 to Oct. 15, 2010, she was a patient under the care of Community Health Systems Inc., doing business as AccessHealth Associates in OBGYN.
She claims three doctors working for Community Health Systems Inc. and deemed to be employees of the United States failed to adequately treat, diagnose and care for her, leading to myometrial infections that led to the loss of her uterus and other serious and permanent injuries.
Browning is seeking an undetermined amount in damages.
She is being represented by Charleston attorney Sprague W. Hazard of the Bell Law Firm in Charleston.
The claim form submitted by Browning says she is 20 years old and seeking $950,000.
