PERSONNEL FILE: Chip Capehart joins Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough

HUNTINGTON - Chip Capehart has joined Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP as an attorney of counsel in the West Virginia office, where he practices in healthcare with an emphasis on the defense of medical malpractice claims and healthcare compliance issues.

Capehart served as a law clerk for The Honorable Earl E. Stephenson of the Fourth District of the Ohio Court of Appeals. He also has served as the Director of Corporate Compliance, In-House Counsel and the Director of Legal Services for a not-for-profit hospital.

He developed, initiated, maintained and revised the organization's Compliance Code of Conduct as well as organizational administrative policies and procedures to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct.

He has worked as an attorney in commercial litigation, insurance coverage and bad faith, worker's compensation, bankruptcy, toxic tort, medical malpractice, and general insurance defense. Capehart has represented clients including an electric utility company, banks, an oil company, insurance companies, and coal companies. He has also worked as an attorney in social security disability, long shore and harbor workers' compensation, admiralty, and general personal injury law.

Capehart earned his Juris Doctor from Ohio Northern University College of Law with Distinction and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Marshall University.
