CHARLESTON - A former employee is suing GC Services for allegedly firing her for being pregnant.
GC Services Limited Partnership is doing business has GC Services. Dan Darnulc and Scott Grigsby were also named as defendants in the suit.
On Feb. 12, 2007, Michelle Hannah was initially hired as a customer service representative for GC Services and was then promoted to Unit Manager, according to a complaint filed Aug. 19 in Kanawha Circuit Court.
Hannah claims she became pregnant in January 2012 and during her pregnancy, she needed time off due to complications associated with her pregnancy.
The complications of Hannah's pregnancy included being diagnosed with partial placenta previa and severe symptoms associated with this condition and others, according to the suit.
Hannah claims on June 15, 2012, the defendants violated the West Virginia Human Rights Act by discriminating against her based on her sex and disability.
The defendant illegally terminated Hannah's employment while she was placed on long-term disability due to her pregnancy complications, according to the suit.
Hannah is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is being represented by Dwight J. Staples of Henderson, Henderson & Staples LC.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Paul Zakaib Jr.
