CHARLESTON - A man is suing Charleston Area Medical Center Inc. for injuries he allegedly sustained while on its premises.
Charleston Area Medical Center is doing business as CAMC Memorial Hospital and CAMC Health Systems Inc.
On Sept. 22, 2011, William J. Reese was picking up paperwork at the defendant's establishment, and upon exiting through the second set of sliding glass doors in the emergency room area, he stepped on loose and uneven pavement and fell, according to a complaint filed Aug. 21 in Kanawha Circuit Court.
Reese claims the defendant knew or should have known that the pavement was loose and uneven and failed to maintain a clean and orderly establishment.
CAMC owed a duty of care to its invitees that visit its premises to maintain the premises in a manner that does not allow hazardous conditions to develop and failed to do so, according to the suit.
Reese claims he sustained an injury to his head, right arm, right knee and shoulder, which was found to be quite extensive and inoperable; pain and suffering; and was otherwise injured.
As a result of his injuries, Reese was required to seek medical treatment and incurred medical expenses, according to the suit.
Reese is seeking compensatory damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. He is being represented by John R. Mitchell of John R. Mitchell LC.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge James C. Stucky.
