Suit says Beckley water leak caused damage

Raleighcourt

BECKLEY - A couple are suing for alleged damages to their property caused by a ruptured water line.

Richard B. Wooton and Shannon L. Wooton filed a lawsuit May 24 against Beckley Water Company Inc. in Raleigh County Circuit Court, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, Beckley Water owns and operates waterlines that run under Northwestern Avenue and that in 2011, the Wootons and their neighbors on Northwestern Avenue and Perdue Street noticed inordinately wet and moist conditions on the street and property.

The Wootons claim that on May 30 the main waterline had a major leak that caused damages to their property. They claim the water company was negligent in maintaining the waterline which led to the damage.

The Wootons are seeking damages in excess of $100,000. They are being represented in the case by Russell O. Wooton of The Wooton Law Firm.
