Raven Golf Club sued over steps

Raven

MARLINTON - Chapmanville residents are suing over claims that unsafe conditions at a local golf course caused serious injury.

William V. Marcum and Nina Marcum filed a lawsuit July 25 in the Circuit Court of Pocahontas County against Snowshoe Mountain Inc., doing business as Raven Golf Club at Snowshoe Mountain, citing negligence, violation of industry standards and building codes and loss of consortium.

The plaintiffs say in August 2011, William Marcum suffered serious injuries when he slipped and fell on stairs at the golf course in Snowshoe.

The complaint states the stairs were constructed of railroad ties that were sloped at a dangerous angle, creating a hazard. As a result of the accident, William Marcum broke his ankle in several places, according to the complaint.

The plaintiffs are seeking an undisclosed amount in damages. They are being represented by Madison attorneys Frank Venezia and Benjamin M. Mishoe of Shaffer & Shaffer PLLC.

Circuit Court of Pocahontas County Case No. 13-C-36.
