Tug Valley student sues over alleged weightlifting accident

Persinger

WILLIAMSON - A Mingo County student and his mother are suing after an accident involving a weight machine allegedly happened.

James Anthony Chapman and his mother, Sharon Harmon, filed a lawsuit April 18 in the Circuit Court of Mingo County against the Mingo County Board of Education, citing negligence.

The plaintiffs claim Chapman, who was a student at Tug Valley High School, suffered severe injuries, including a dislocated left hip, while using a leg press machine on March 15, 2012, during physical education class.

They claim the defendant's employees failed to properly supervise the students, failed to maintain the equipment and failed to seek medical attention for Chapman in a timely manner.

The plaintiffs are suing for an amount of relief to be determined. They are being represented by Williamson attorney Howard M. Persinger III.
