Prudential Insurance sued over life insurance policy

Sblass e1361999356271

WHEELING - Beneficiaries of a Servicemembers Group Life Insurance policy are suing Prudential Insurance for allegedly failing to pay the policy proceeds.

Jeffrey A. Ripley, Andrew J. Ripley and Dean P. Ripley filed a lawsuit Nov. 15 in the United States District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia Wheeling against Prudential Insurance Co. of America, doing business as Servicemembers Group Life Insurance, seeking declaratory relief and attorney's fees and costs.

The plaintiffs state they are entitled to the proceeds of Wilfred H. Ripley Jr.’s Servicemembers Group Life Insurance policy. According to the complaint, on Aug. 22, 2009, Wilfred H. Ripley Jr. died, and the plaintiffs are the only living next of kin of the deceased and therefore the proper beneficiaries of the insurance policy.

The plaintiffs are seeking a declaratory judgment against the defendant, declaring the plaintiffs are entitled to the proceeds of the Servicemembers Group Life Insurance policy and attorney’s fees and costs. They are being represented in the case by attorney Scott S. Blass of Bordas & Bordas PLLC.
