New Logan County judge to be sworn in

LOGAN – William Douglas Witten will be sworn in as the newest judge in the Seventh Judicial Circuit (Logan County) at 1 p.m. July 31 at the Logan County Courthouse.

He was appointed by Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin on July 10 and fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Roger L. Perry on June 30.

Witten is a graduate of West Virginia University and West Virginia University College of Law and began his legal career in 1969. He served as the assistant prosecuting attorney of Logan County and as a partner in Damron, Parks & Witten from 1970 to 1975. In 1976, he established Avis & Witten, later Avis, Witten & Wandling.

He is active in the Boy Scouts of America and is the past campaign chairman and president of the Logan County United Fund.
