Woman accuses Huntington Health & Rehabilitation of elder abuse

HUNTINGTON - A Cabell County woman is suing Huntington Health & Rehabilitation after she claims it abused and neglected her husband.

SMV Huntington LLC, SSC Huntington Operating Company LLC, SSC Submaster Holdings LLC, SSC Equity Holdings MT LLC, Savaseniorcare LLC and SSC Special Holdings LLC were also named as defendants in the suit.

Seventeenth Street Associates is doing business as Huntington Health & Rehabilitation.

Richard Copley was a nursing home resident of the defendants from Aug. 14, 2013, until April 25, 2014, according to a complaint filed in Cabell Circuit Court.

Sue Copley claims during his care, Richard Copley was abused and neglected.

The defendants failed to monitor and assess Richard Copley's skin breakdown, failed to implement a plan of care and treatment to prevent him from suffering breakdown or worsening of skin breakdown and failed to turn and reposition him, according to the suit.

Sue Copley claims the defendant's negligence and carelessness substantially caused serious injuries to Richard Copley.

The defendants also failed to provide the necessary amount of food and nutrition to Richard Copley so as to prevent malnutrition, according to the suit.

Sue Copley is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is being represented by Andrew L. Paternostro and Jeff D. Stewart of the Bell Law Firm.

The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Christopher D. Chiles.
