Putnam man sues Sleepy Hollow Golf Club for negligence

Sleepyhollow

WINFIELD – A Putnam County man is suing Sleepy Hollow Golf Club for negligence and common law invasion of privacy.

Jonathan Schaffer purchased a membership at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club and the golf club sent him letters demanding immediate payment of an alleged debt and advised that his delinquent account would be posted and disclosed on bulletin boards, according to a complaint filed in Putnam Circuit Court.

Schaffer claims Sleepy Hollow also threatened to post the debt in the grill area of the club and threatened him with illegal late fees.

The defendant willfully and intentionally published and posted Schaffer's alleged indebtedness and sensitive debt information on its bulletin boards, in the grilling area and in its newsletters to its members, according to the suit.

Schaffer claims the defendant violated West Virginia code with the unlawful publication of debt and illegal threats of late fees.

The defendant was also negligent in violating the West Virginia Consumer Credit and Protection Act and invaded Schaffer's privacy, according to the suit.

Schaffer is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. He is being represented by Matthew Stonestreet.
