Wayne woman sues Louisa Log Yard for family member's death

Louisalogyard

WAYNE – A woman is suing Louisa Log Yard after she claims it is responsible for her family member's death.

BPM Lumber LLC is doing business as Louisa Log Yard.

Wayne Lumber & Mulch Inc. was also named as a defendant in the suit.

Thomas Lee Dickerson would perform work at Wayne Lumber's direction for the company's benefit and his duties included loading timber logs onto a log truck and then driving the log truck to destinations where the logs would be purchased, according to a complaint filed in Wayne Circuit Court.

Chelsea Lorraine Dickerson claims on May 14, Wayne Lumber directed Thomas Dickerson to load his truck with logs and to transport it so it would be received by BPM first thing on the morning of May 15.

Thomas Dickerson exited his vehicle shortly before 8 a.m. for the purpose of removing his wrappers, and BPM did not provide him with any assistance, according to the suit.

Chelsea Dickerson claims Thomas Dickerson successfully removed one of the truck's wrappers, however, when she attempted to release the remaining wrapper, a heavy log rolled from the top of the stack and crashed down on his head and shoulders, delivering the injuries that ultimately killed him.

The defendants were negligent and caused Thomas Dickerson's injuries and death, according to the suit.

Chelsea Dickerson is seeking compensatory and punitive damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. She is being represented by Eric B. Snyder, Robert P. Lorea and Katherine E. Charonko of Bailey & Glasser LLP.
