CHARLESTON – A Sissonville woman is suing Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority after she claims it was negligent and caused her injuries.
On Feb. 13, 2014, Sandra Nelson was sick with vomiting, diarrhea and weakness and her physical condition, ailments and weight prevented her from ambulating independently, according to a complaint filed in Kanawha Circuit Court.
Nelson claims KCEAA was dispatched to her home to transport her to the hospital by ambulance, however, KCEAA's agents, servants or employees could not get KCEAA's ambulance cot into her house to transfer her to the ambulance.
While negligently attempting to walk Nelson from her house to the ambulance, the defendant's employees dropped her to the floor and caused her serious injuries, according to the suit.
Nelson claims the defendant deviated from the standard of care by failing to exercise the degree of care, skill and learning required or expected of reasonable, prudent health providers.
As a result of the defendant's negligent conduct and deviations, Nelson suffered significant personal injuries and damages, according to the suit.
Nelson is seeking compensatory damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. She is being represented by Bert Ketchum of Greene, Ketchum, Farrell, Bailey & Tweel.
The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Joanna Tabit.
