Wheeling woman fired after short-term disability leave sues ex-employer

WHEELING – An employee who took an extended leave of absence on short-term disability has filed suit after she wasn't reinstated upon returning to work.

Edna J. Tullius of Wheeling sued former employer Silgan Plastics Corp. on Aug.11 after she was let go upon returning from short-term disability leave.

Tullius had applied for long-term disability before her termination, but was denied. Tullius' suit alleges wrongful termination and unfair denial of disability benefits, as well as lost wages and benefits, emotional distress, court costs, and compensatory and punitive damages, among other claims.

The plaintiff is representing herself. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge David Sims.
