CHARLESTON--A Kanawha County woman is suing a childcare service on behalf of her son, alleging sexual misconduct.
Paulina Compton and her son Charlie Compton, both of Lenore, filed a lawsuit July 17 in Kanawha Circuit Court against The Childrens Home Society of West Virginia, and Shelia Evans of Delbarton, alleging negligence, carelessness, recklessness and lack of due regard.
According to the complaint, Charlie Compton, a juvenile under 18, was under the care of Evans, a shift supervisor and care provider for children at the June Montgomery Harless Center, owned and operated by the The Childrens Home Society of West Virginia. The suit says in early winter 2014, Paulina Compton discovered Evans was engaging in sexual relations with her son, a direct violation of her duties as an employee of the center.
The plaintiffs allege CHSWV coerced Charlie Compton into acts of a sexual nature, causing emotional distress, and severe and permanent injury in his mind and body which required and will continue to require medical care and expenses.
The Comptons seek compensatory damages in excess of the jurisdictional amount, punitive damages, pre-and-post-judgment interest costs and a trial by jury. They are represented by attorneys Charles M. Love, IV of The Love Law Firm of Charleston, and M. Timothy Koonz, of Williamson. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Duke Bloom.
