WINFIELD – A Putnam County husband and wife are suing an oil and gas company, alleging it damaged their property while drilling.

John S. Casto and Cheryl Casto filed a lawsuit Sept. 4 in Putnam Circuit Court against Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation, alleging breach of contract and negligence.

According to the complaint, in February 2007, the defendants entered the Castos' property in Putnam County for the purpose of drilling a gas well and laying pipeline under the surface. The suit says during the course of drilling and laying pipeline, Cabot Oil and Gas damaged an underground culvert that extended 260 feet from one end of a creek to the other.

The lawsuit states the defendant breached its contract and was negligent in its failure to perform work in a manner that did not cause damage and in its failure to repair said damage.

The Castos seek compensatory damages of less than $75,000, plus costs of the suit and attorney fees. They are represented by attorney Michael J. Del Giudice of Ciccarello, Del Giudice & Lafon in Charleston.

Putnam Circuit Court case number 15-c-215.
