Bluefield Regional physician accused for misdiagnosing heart attack

Emergency

PRINCETON – The estate of a deceased Bluefield, W.Va., man recently sued a Mercer County emergency room physician alleging medical negligence in his death.

Thomas Buzzo, representing the estate of his father, Dominick Buzzo, filed a lawsuit in Mercer Circuit Court against Dr. Reil Sorno, alleging the physician failed to properly diagnose the fatal heart attack that killed his dad on July 11, 2014.

Dominick Buzzo was taken to the Bluefield Regional Medical Center via ambulance on July 10, 2014, complaining of chest pain that had radiated to his right arm and the back of neck. Thomas Buzzo alleges that Sorno misdiagnosed his father with strep throat, possible arthritis and joint pain despite a previous history of cardiac issues. After being sent home allegedly without proper cardiac tests, Dominick Buzzo suffered a fatal heart attack the next day.

The estate is seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages, plus costs and attorney fees.  The plaintiff is represented by Stephen P. New of Beckle.

Mercer Circuit Court case number 15-C-336
