Man accuses CAMC of negligence in woman's death

Hospital

CHARLESTON – A man is suing the Charleston Area Medical Center following the death of his decedent, alleging that the center was negligent in failing to provide the medical attention required.

Guy Edward Amburgey, executor of the estate of Janice Amburgey, filed a complaint on Dec. 28 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Charleston Area Medical Center, the West Virginia University board of directors and the West Virginia University Medical Corp., Charleston Division, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, Janice Amburgey was admitted to the medical center in January 2014 after complaining of extreme abdominal pain. The complaint states that she showed symptoms of bowel ischemia and that the medical staff failed to recognize the immediate need for surgery. Due to the medical center's failure and negligence to perform as it should have, the patient suffered a cardiac arrest, and shortly afterwards died. Amburgey is suing on behalf of the decedent for the negligence of the plaintiff.

Amburgey is seeking compensation for damages suffered and legal fees incurred. He is represented by Larry O. Ford of Meyer, Ford, Glasser and Radman PLLC in Charleston. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Charles E. King.
