CHARLESTON — Charleston residents are suing a local water company alleging they ingested dangerous amounts of harmful chemicals in their water.

Keith Morgan and Karla Rae filed a class-action suit on Dec. 7 in the Kanawha Circuit Court against the West Virginia American Water Company alleging negligence.

The West Virginia American Water Company services the Charleston area, and is responsible for providing safe and potable drinking water.

It was discovered in early 2014 that 4-Methyl-1-Cyclohexanemethanol  was leaking into the water supply,  endangering the individuals who were ingesting the water. Because of their contact with the chemical, the plaintiffs and others experienced detrimental side effects, which resulted in medical expenses.

Morgan and Rae are seeking compensation for all damages, physical and financial; and for all legal fees incurred. They are represented by Marvin W. Masters of The Masters Law Firm LLC in Charleston. The case is being heard by Judge Louis Bloom.
