PRINCETON — A patient is suing his surgeon alleging he failed to check his vision, eye pressure and healing progress after surgery, which led to damage to the optic nerve, retina and visual function.
Ronnie Brown filed a lawsuit on Jan. 28 in the Mercer Circuit Court against Dr. Mohammad Y. Kanawati, alleging negligence.
The complaint states that, Kanawati preformed surgery to remove a cataract in Brown’s right eye on Feb. 9, 2014. While preforming the surgery, Kanawati allegedly failed to remove all the lens material present in the vitreous cavity. Also, the suit claims he failed to check Brown's vision and eye pressure, as well as how he was healing after the surgery, which led to damage to the eye.
The suit alleges that as a result of Kanawati's actions Brown will continue to suffer for the rest of his life with blindness, pain, discomfort and physical limitations.
Brown demands a jury trial, and judgment to be entered in an amount adequate to compensate him for his injuries and pain. The plaintiff is represented by Larry O. Ford of Meyer, Ford, Glasser and Radman, PLLC in Charleston.
