KINGWOOD — A Preston County landlord says a commercial tenant closed up shop before her lease expired, leaving thousands of dollars in unpaid rent.
Kimberly Mayor, doing business as Valley Professional Plaza, filed a lawsuit Feb. 10 in Preston Circuit Court against Sherry’s Boutique & Consignment Shop LLC and its owner, Sherry Newcome, alleging breach of a lease agreement.
According to the complaint, Mayor leased Suite 1 of a commercial property she owns in Reedsville to Newcome for $750 per month beginning Sept. 1, 2014, and ending Aug. 31, 2016. Around the end of October 2015, the plaintiff says, Newcome abandoned the leased property, failing to pay the remaining rent owed under the lease. Mayor also claims that she has been slandered by Newcome, who allegedly has told various people around Reedsville that the plaintiff cheated and overcharged her, according to the suit.
The plaintiff seeks recovery of $10,500 for unpaid rent, costs and punitive damages. She is represented by attorney J. Bryan Edwards of Cranston & Edwards PLLC in Morgantown.
Judge Lawrance S. Miller Jr. is assigned to the case.
