Passenger injured in car wreck files negligence suit against McMechen Police Department, two drivers

Car collision

MOUNDSVILLE – An Ohio County woman is suing the McMechen Police Department and the drivers of two vehicles she claims struck the car in which she was a passenger.

Korene S. Lantz filed a lawsuit Feb. 10 in Marshall Circuit Court against David M. Richardson, the McMechen Police Department and James Wallace, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 27, 2014, Richardson lost control of his car on Route 2 in Marshall County, striking the vehicle in which Lantz was a passenger. The suit further states that Wallace, an employee of the McMechen Police Department, also collided with her vehicle as she stood by it, nearly striking her in the process. The two drivers are blamed for reckless driving and failing to obey traffic laws, whereas the McMechen Police Department is faulted for entrusting its vehicle to Wallace without proper supervision or training.

Lantz seeks a jury trial and compensation for her injuries and other damages, plus litigation costs and interest. She is represented by attorney Herman D. Lantz of the Lantz Law Offices in Moundsville. Judge Jeffrey Cramer is assigned to the case.
