Borrower accuses Nationstar Mortgage of harassment

100 dollar bills

PRINCETON – A Mercer County woman says her mortgage company harassed her over a debt she did not owe.

Drema A. Reed filed a lawsuit on Feb. 12 in Mercer Circuit Court against Nationstar Mortgage LLC, alleging breach of contract, gross negligence and reckless conduct.

According to the complaint, Reed borrowed $54,645.20 from Springleaf Mortgage Services Inc. and its successor, American General Home Equity Inc., on Aug. 12, 2002, owing monthly payments of $553.01. In October 2014, the suit says Reed was notified that Nationstar had acquired the loan from American General, and she began sending payments to the defendant.

Reed, however, says she began receiving late notices from Nationstar, although her payments were on time. The suit claims Nationstar began a campaign of frequent, harassing telephone calls to Reed in an attempt to collect the alleged debt.

Reed seeks a jury trial and damages voluntarily capped at $74,999, including attorneys’ fees. She is represented by attorney Marc B. Lazenby of Lazenby Law Office in Princeton.
