AG's office announces events for Consumer Protection Week

CHARLESTON — West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey's office will host various events statewide, including several in Cabell, Kanawha, Putnam and Wayne counties, aimed at consumer education and fighting fraud as part of National Consumer Protection Week 2016. 

Morrisey collaborates with the Federal Trade Commission and 73 federal, state and local agencies, consumer groups and national organizations to raise awareness about consumer fraud issues from Sunday, March 6, to Saturday, March 12.

“Every West Virginian that spends money on goods and services is affected by consumer fraud and can benefit from consumer protection information,” Morrisey said in a statement. “The week’s events represent one more way our office can help consumers recognize scams, identify dishonest business practices and protect their personal information.”

The week’s events include a live Facebook chat with Morrisey, along with various opportunities to meet with consumer representatives from the office. The event schedule is as follows:

Mar. 7 –– 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. FREE Credit Reports at the Wayne Senior Center, 440 Cleveland St., Wayne

Mar. 7 –– 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. FREE Credit Reports at the Buffalo Senior Center, 48 Wrights Ln., Buffalo

Mar. 8 — 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Career Fair at George Washington High School, 1522 Tennis Club Rd., Charleston

Mar. 9 — 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Information Booth at the Charleston Post Office, 1002 Lee St., Charleston

Mar. 10 –– 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Mobile Office Hours at the Barboursville Mall, 500 Mall St., Barbourville

Mar. 10 — 4 – 5 p.m. Mobile Office Hours at the Kanawha County Courthouse, 401 Virginia St., E., Charleston

Mar. 11—11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. FREE Credit Reports at the Tiskelwah Senior Center, 600 Florida St., Charleston

Attorney General Morrisey will host the live Facebook Q&A session from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 9.
