Patient accuses doctor of performing unnecessarily extensive procedure

Mammogram doctor

BECKLEY – A couple is suing a doctor, claiming he performed a partial mastectomy when a less aggressive procedure was an option.

Tina and James Clark filed a lawsuit Feb. 18 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Dr. Rajendra P. Singh, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, when Tina Clark was diagnosed in 2014 with a suspicious mass of the breast, Singh performed a procedure in February 2014 to obtain tissue samples. Once the samples were analyzed, the suit says no breast cancer was found. Clark says the small, 1.3-centimeter nodule she had should have been treated with a small incision or needle biopsy, rather than the partial mastectomy Singh performed. Tina Clark alleges the procedure was unnecessary and has suffered mental anguish, pain and physical deformity.

The Clarks seek a jury trial and damages to be proven at trial. They are represented by attorney Larry O. Ford of Meyer, Ford, Glasser & Radman PLLC in Charleston. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge H.L. Kirkpatrick III.
