POINT PLEASANT – A Mason County woman is suing a debt collector in a dispute over the amount owed on a loan.
Kathorine Cobb filed a lawsuit March 16 in Mason Circuit Court against G.C. Services L.P., alleging violations of consumer credit laws, common law negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
According to the complaint, Cobb contacted the defendant to dispute how much was owed on a school loan, but G.C. Services was unable to determine how the balance was determined. While the suit claims the defendant believes it is not required to verify the amounts owed, Cobb says it is attempting to collect a debt that was incorrectly calculated.
Cobb seeks a jury trial and damages for violating state consumer protection laws, plus litigation costs, as well as general and punitive damages. She is represented by attorneys Daniel Armstrong and Benjamin Sheridan of Klein & Sheridan in Hurricane.
Judge Thomas C. Evans III is assigned to the case.
