Shopper blames store for falling ice injuries

Icy roof

CHARLESTON – A Kanawha County woman says ice from a rooftop at a store fell and struck her in the head.

Deborah Hudnall filed a lawsuit March 14 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Go-Mart Inc., alleging negligence and premises liability.

According to the complaint, Hudnall was entering the Go-Mart on Bigley Avenue near Westmoreland Drive on March 6, 2015, when an accumulation of ice slipped from the roof, striking her in the head. The suit claims the store is liable for neglecting the facility’s maintenance and upkeep, as well as failing to provide a safe environment for customers.

Hudnall seeks a jury trial and damages determined at trial, plus interest and litigation costs. She is represented by attorney G. Patrick Jacobs of the Law Office of G. Patrick Jacobs in Charleston. Judge Jennifer F. Bailey is assigned to the case.
