Son alleges neglect caused father’s nursing home death

CHARLESTON – A Kanawha County man has filed a wrongful death suit against a Charleston nursing home and its owners.

Michael Adkins, as personal representative of the estate of William Adkins (deceased), filed a lawsuit March 11 in Kanawha Circuit Court against 699 South Park Road Operations LLC, doing business as Quarry Manor, and Genesis Healthcare LLC, alleging wrongful death, negligence and reckless misconduct .

According to the complaint, William Adkins lived at Quarry Manor from Jan. 20 to July 11, 2014 where he was inadequately supervised, suffering multiple falls and skin breakdowns. The suit says negligence and abuse on the part of the defendant’s staff caused Adkins’ injuries, contributing to his death on July 21, 2014.

Michael Adkins seeks a jury trial, punitive and compensatory damages, plus litigation costs. He is represented by attorneys Andrew L. Paternostro and Jeff D. Stewart of The Bell Law Firm in Charleston.

Judge Louis H. “Duke” Bloom is assigned to the case.
