GRAFTON – A Taylor County man is suing a property owner and a utility company for injuries he allegedly suffered when a tree he felled with a chainsaw touched electrical lines.
George Cartwright filed a lawsuit March 21 in Taylor Circuit Court against Monongahela Power Co., FirstEnergy Corp., FirstEnergy Generation LLC, FirstEnergy Generation Corp., FirstEnergy Solutions Corp., FirstEnergy Service Co., FirstEnergy Services Corp., FirstEnergy Transmission LLC and Gabriel Morales, alleging personal injury liability.
According to the complaint, Cartwright was injured when the tree he was cutting down for Morales on March 22, 2014 hit power lines, sending a surge of electricity through his body. The suit says FirstEnergy is at fault because they neglected to raise the power lines before the incident, even after Morales had told them they were sagging. Cartwright says Morales is liable because he should have known the low-hanging lines would pose a danger to him.
Cartwright seeks compensatory and punitive damages, interest and litigation costs. He is represented by Morgantown attorney Edmund Rollo.
