MOUNDSVILLE – A Marshall County woman is suing the hospital where she worked and two physicians, claiming she was dismissed after trying to help a cardiac patient who had complained about his treatment.
Norma J. Whipkey filed a lawsuit March 21 in Marshall Circuit Court against Reynolds Memorial Hospital Inc., Dr. Madhu Dharawat and Dr. Deepak Hooda, alleging violations of patient safety laws.
According to the complaint, Whipkey had just started at Reynolds Memorial as a nuclear medicine technician when a male patient complained to her last May about the care he was receiving from Hooda. When the plaintiff brought Mackey’s case to Dharawat’s attention, the suit says he advised the man to file a complaint against Hooda with the hospital. However, the suit says that once the patient filed the complaint, both doctors refused to see him, and Whipkey was terminated about a month later, on June 5.
Whipkey seeks a jury trial and punitive and compensatory damages. She is represented by attorney Patrick S. Cassidy and Wray V. Voegelin of Cassidy, Cogan, Shapell & Voegelin L.C.in Wheeling.
