Car buyer accuses dealership of selling defective vehicle

WHEELING – A Ohio County woman is suing to rescind a sales contract for an allegedly defective vehicle she says she purchased from a used-car dealer.

Laeken N. Beale filed a lawsuit April 13 in Ohio Circuit Court against SR Group LLC, doing business as Steel River Pre-Owned Auto Sales, alleging breach of contract.

According to the complaint, Beale purchased the vehicle from Steel River on Jan. 22. After taking the vehicle through an automatic car wash a few days later, Beale said leaks in the roof, windshield, sunroof and other areas allowed water and cleaning agents to flood the interior. This defect persisted, the suit says, even after a Steel River technician allegedly sealed the leaks with silicone gel. The plaintiff also states that the gear shifter later developed problems, leaving it inoperable at times.

Beale seeks cancellation of the contract and return of the $7,313 she paid in total for the vehicle, plus litigation costs. She is represented by attorney Christian E. Turak of Gold, Khourey & Turak L.C. of Moundsville.

Judge Ronald E. Wilson is assigned to the case.
