Injured shopper accuses retail giant of negligence

Slip02

CHARLESTON – A Kanawha County man says the slip-and-fall injuries he allegedly suffered at a store in Charleston left him permanently injured.

Glenn Jordan filed a lawsuit March 31 in Kanawha Circuit Court against J.C. Penney Corp. Inc., Federal Building Services, Forest City Enterprises Inc., and three unnamed defendants, alleging negligence and reckless conduct.

According to the complaint, Jordan was walking across the floor just outside the J.C. Penney store when he slipped and fell on a puddle of liquid from the freshly shampooed carpet. The suit claims other patrons had slipped previously in the same area with store management’s knowledge, but no warning signs had been posted. Jordan says he has incurred medical expenses to tree a knee injury he suffered in the fall, but the damage appears permanent.

Jordan seeks a trial by jury and compensation for his injuries, as well as interest and litigation costs. He is represented by attorney Jeffrey T. Jones of the Law Offices of Jeffrey T. Jones in Charleston. Judge Joanna Tabit is assigned to the case.
