Insurer blames boat maker for fire damage

PRINCETON – A Minnesota-based insurance firm claims the manufacturer of a boat that allegedly caught fire and destroyed a building it insured should be liable for the damages.

Erie Insurance Property & Casualty Co. filed a lawsuit April 21 in Mercer Circuit Court against Fishing Holdings LLC.


According to the complaint, Erie Insurance insured a garage in Princeton damaged when a Ranger Z520C boat manufactured by Fishing Holdings caught fire on May 8, 2014. The plaintiff claims it paid $13,649, plus a $500 deductible, to settle the claim, and is now seeking reimbursement for the settlement from Fishing Holdings.

The plaintiff seeks damages totaling $14,149. It is represented by attorney Charles G. Johnson of Jackson Kelly PLLC in Bridgeport.
