CHARLESTON – A Kanawha County woman says she was permanently injured by using an unsafe chiropractic bed.

Jean Young filed a lawsuit March 30 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Simmons Family Chiropractic & Wellness Center PLLC, alleging negligence and premises liability.

According to the complaint, Young was visiting the Simmons Center on April 23, 2014 when she slid off a treatment table, scraping her foot and causing her foot to swell. As a result of her injuries, Young says she developed ulcers and had to undergo corrective surgery. The suit also says the bed from which she slid was unsafe, as it had no safety straps to secure patients.

Young seeks a jury trial and compensatory damages for pain and suffering, ongoing medical expenses, lost wages, and loss of enjoyment of life. She is represented by attorney Lia DiTrapano Fairless of the DiTripano Law Firm P.C. in Charleston.

Judge Carrie L. Webster is assigned to the case.
