Shopper blames store for alleged hazardous conditions

BECKLEY – A Raleigh County woman says she was injured when a garment rack fell on her hand.

Cynthia C. Worley filed a lawsuit May 3 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Gabriel Brothers Inc. and its parent company, AMCP Retail Acquisition Corp., alleging negligence and premises liability.


According to the complaint, Worley was visiting the Gabriel Brothers store in Beckley on June 12, 2014 when a merchandise rack collapsed, smashing her hand and wrist. The plaintiff blames the defendants for allegedly failing to ensure safe conditions.

Worley seeks a jury trial, punitive and compensatory damages, interest and litigation costs. She is represented by attorneys Robert D. Cline Jr., Brian E. Bigelow and Jennifer Dempsey Meeteer of Farmer, Cline & Campbell PLLC in Beckley.

Judge John A. Hutchison is assigned to the case.
