Injured motorist blames other driver for allegedly causing rear-end collision

BECKLEY – A Raleigh County woman is suing a driver who allegedly struck her vehicle from behind as she attempted to enter a grocery store’s parking lot.

Sheryl Jewell filed a lawsuit April 29 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Mikaila Ryan Thompson, alleging reckless driving and negligence.


According to the complaint, Jewell was northbound in a 2014 Kia Soul on June 20, 2014, preparing to turn left on Route 16 near Bradley when Thompson’s 1995 Saturn SL1 struck her from behind. The plaintiff is suing for medical expenses, past and future lost wages, pain and suffering, and other injuries.

Jewell seeks punitive and compensatory damages, interest, and litigation costs. She is represented by attorney Robert D. Cline Jr. and Brian E. Bigelow of Farmer, Cline & Campbell PLLC in Beckley.

Judge Robert A. Burnside Jr. is assigned to the case.
