Insurance 05

POINT PLEASANT – A Mason County woman is petitioning to accept a settlement offered by the insurer of a driver who allegedly injured her daughter in a two-vehicle collision.

Ireta Vanmeter, on behalf of her minor child Siera Vanmeter, filed the petition May 5 in Mason Circuit Court against Geico Indemnity Co., alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Siera was a passenger in her mother’s 2003 Ford Crown Victoria on Oct. 23, waiting in line at McDonald’s. The suit says a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Michele Guyton backed into the Vanmeter vehicle, causing Siera to suffer neck and low back pain.

Ireta Vanmeter says her daughter was diagnosed with temporary strains in her back and neck, and incurred $1,230 in medical expenses after seeking treatment at Pleasant Valley Hospital. She is petitioning the court to accept the settlement offered by Guyton's insurer, Geico..

Vanmeter seeks to accept a $1,735 settlement against $1,230 in medical bills, leaving a net settlement of $505 for Siera. Vanmeter is representing herself. Geico is represented by Shawna N. Pinkerton of the Law Office of Shawna N. Pinkerton in Charleston.
