Mother blames bus driver, school board for injuries

Law money 02

BECKLEY – A Raleigh County woman is suing a school bus driver for allegedly causing an injury accident involving her and her son, with medical expenses of nearly $20,000.

Stephanie Adkins, individually and as legal guardian and next friend of Tyler Adkins, filed a lawsuit May 11 in Raleigh Circuit Court against the Raleigh County Board of Education and one of its bus drivers, Robert Austin, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, as Adkins was dropping off her son, Tyler, on May 23, 2014 at Cranberry Elementary, Austin backed into Adkins’ vehicle, injuring both mother and son. The suit blames Austin’s alleged negligence for causing the accident, which allegedly resulted in the plaintiffs suffering permanent injury to their extremities.

The plaintiff seeks a jury trial, reimbursement for ongoing medical expenses so far totaling $16,907, and litigation costs. She is represented by attorney Christopher M. Davis of Wooton, Davis, Hussell & Ellis PLLC in Beckley.
