Customer blames grocery chain for slip-and-fall injuries

WINFIELD – A Putnam County man is suing a supermarket chain for injuries he allegedly suffered from slipping on a rug in their store in Hurricane.

William Preston filed a lawsuit May 18 in Putnam Circuit Court against Save-A-Lot Food Stores Inc. and store supervisor Roger Allen, alleging negligence.


According to the complaint, while Preston was visiting the Save-A-Lot store in Hurricane on Jan. 18, 2015, he slipped on a rug, fell and slammed his head against the wall. The suit claims Preston has endured pain and suffering and has incurred ongoing medical expenses, as well as emotional pain and diminished capacity to enjoy life.

The plaintiff seeks a jury trial, compensatory damages, interest and litigation costs. He is represented by attorney Elizabeth G. Kavitz of Kavitz Law PLLC in Charleston.

Judge Joseph Reeder is assigned to the case.
