On July 15, Sherry Forshey presented at Pleasant Valley Hospital for a pre-scheduled total abdominal hysterectomy and oophorectomy for persistent cervical dysplasia and a large ovarian cyst, according to a complaint filed May 16 in Mason Circuit Court.
She and her husband, William Forshey, claim Dr. Fri Mofor-Eta performed the surgery, which lasted five hours and there was extensive blood loss.
There were apparently extensive adhesions to the left pelvic side wall in the region of the left femoral nerve and on the first day post-operation, Sherry Forshey started having problems with her left lower extremity and was diagnosed with left femoral neuropathy, according to the suit.
The Forsheys claim Mofor-Eta refused to give Sherry Forshey follow-up care and that his negligently poor dictation and record keeping made it difficult to determine which of four deviations from the standard of care occurred that would have caused the femoral neuropathy.
Mofor-Eta’s acts and omissions in treating Sherry Forshey were a deviation from the standard of care and constitute a proximate cause of her injury, which continues to the present day, not allowing her to work and/or function normally in her day-to-day activities, according to the suit.
The Forsheys are seeking compensatory and punitive damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. They are being represented by Kathy A. Brown of Kathy Brown Law and Timothy D. Houston of Houston Law PLLC.
The case is assigned to Circuit Judge David W. Nibert.
