Former social worker seeks to overturn dismissal

Wrongful term 14

PINEVILLE – A Wyoming County woman is suing her former employer in an attempt to reverse her termination.

Stephanie Collier filed a lawsuit May 25 in Wyoming Circuit Court against the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, alleging a violation of constitutional rights to due process.

According to the complaint, Collier was a socially necessary services provider for the state of West Virginia until the Mingo County Child Protective Services filed abuse and neglect charges against her. Although Collier requested an appeal, the claim states that a judge dismissed the case, allegedly violating her right to due process. Collier maintains that the finding of abuse was erroneous and should not have caused her firing.

The plaintiff seeks judicial review of the department’s decision to terminate her employment. She is represented by attorney Dennie S. Morgan Jr. of Morgan Law in Welch.
