PINEVILLE – A Wyoming County couple is suing auto giant Ford Motor Co. and its dealer, claiming they were knowingly sold a defective vehicle.

Brandon Adkins and Kimberly Adkins filed a lawsuit May 23 in Wyoming Circuit Court against Ford Motor Company LLC and Thornhill Ford-Lincoln (also known as Thornhill Group Inc.), alleging violations of the state’s lemon law.

According to the complaint, after the plaintiffs bought a 2015 Ford Edge from Thornhill on Sept. 8, the vehicle developed problems within the warranty period, requiring several repair attempts. During one alleged malfunction, the suit says, the car stalled and began rolling backward toward another car while the plaintiffs' 18-month-old daughter was a passenger in the vehicle. Over the next several months, the plaintiffs say the car stalled numerous times with warning lights activated. The suit claims the dealer knew the vehicle had a history of repairs before they sold it to the plaintiffs.

The Adkinses seek a jury trial, a refund of the vehicle’s $38,279 purchase price, and additional damages for annoyance and inconvenience. They are represented by attorney David G. Thompson of the Thompson Law Office in Pineville.

Judge Warren R. McGraw is assigned to the case.
