PRINCETON – A North Carolina man is suing another driver and his employers in connection with an alleged collision on Interstate 77 in Mercer County.

Roy B. Edwards filed a lawsuit May 24 in Mercer Circuit Court against James R. Stewart Jr., Browning Moving and Storage Inc., United Van Lines LLC and Fister Moving and Storage Inc., alleging negligence and vicarious liability.

According to the complaint, on June 16, 2014 Edwards was northbound in a tractor-trailer on Interstate 77 when another tractor-trailer driven by Stewart struck him from behind after traffic forced him to apply his brakes. Stewart, an employee or agent of the other defendants, allegedly neglected to exercise reasonable care when operating his vehicle at the time of the collision, failing to keep a safe distance between his vehicle and the one in front. The suit says Edwards' injuries have rendered him unable to perform daily living activities.

Edwards seeks a jury trial and compensatory damages for pain and suffering, medical expenses and lost wages, plus litigation costs and interest. He is represented by attorney M. Bryan Slaughter of MichieHamlet in Charlottsville.

Judge Derek C. Swope is assigned to the case.
