PRINCETON — A man is suing Sterling Transport Co. Inc., Ryder Leasing Inc. and Eamon Lester Johnlewis, alleging negligence and insufficient measures taken to prevent injuries.
Carmie Edwards Estep Jr. filed a complaint on June 16 in Mercer Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that Ryder and Sterling failed to follow state and federal laws and regulations applicable to commercial carriers and that Johnlewis negligently caused a collision.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 23, 2014, he was a restrained driver in an automobile being driven on Big Laurel Highway, US Route 460, near the City of Bluefield in Mercer County, while Johnlewis, acting as an agent of Sterling, was operating a Mack 18-wheeler truck on the same road when he sideswiped the plaintiff's vehicle. As a result, the plaintiff claims, he suffered injuries, pain and suffering, mental and emotional distress, annoyance and inconvenience, medical expenses and loss of wages. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible and claims Johnlewis failed to maintain proper control of the vehicle, failed to exercise the standard of care of a reasonably prudent person, and negligently operated a commercial vehicle,.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants for damages, medical bills in an amount not less than $2,000, continuing and future medical expenses, loss of wages and earning capacity and all other recoverable costs and expenses.
