Marshall exchange student from Italy sues Huntington apartment operator

Law money 10

HUNTINGTON — An Italian exchange student is suing Varsity Huntington II LLC, an apartment operator, claiming insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries.

Michele Romanelli filed a complaint on June 7 in Cabell Circuit Court against Varsity Huntington II LLC, alleging that the apartment operator breached its duty to provide a reasonably safe environment.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, on Sept. 20, 2014, he was a guest at defendant's apartment being leased by Bethany Spears. As he was attempting to close a jammed window, the window shattered, resulting in glass severing several tendons in his hand, causing him to suffer pain in body and mind, annoyance, inconvenience, humiliation, embarrassment and medical expenses. The plaintiff holds Varsity Huntington II LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly negligently failed to inspect and properly maintain its premises.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount that will adequately compensate him, plus pre-judgment interest, attorneys' fees, costs and any other relief that the court deems just and appropriate. He is represented by Kenneth P. Hicks and D. Geoffrey Varney of Kenneth P. Hicks LC in Huntington.
