CHARLESTON – Attorney General Patrick Morrisey has announced the office’s third annual Off to College Consumer Protection Week will begin Aug. 15.
The week-long series is designed to raise awareness of consumer protection issues facing college students.
The series will touch on identity theft and landlord/tenant issues, in addition to scams involved with credit cards, scholarships and employment.
The initiative aims to equip parents and students with information and resources needed to recognize emerging scams, fraudulent activity and their rights as a consumer.
“Many scams target young adults,” Morrisey said. “We need to educate them and supply the tools necessary to protect themselves from fraud. That is exactly what my office continues to do through this program.”
The office will provide daily news releases and other tips via Facebook and Twitter to support the week’s objective.
