Couple claim fall was fault of construction companies

Law money 12

KINGWOOD — A couple's lawsuit against Roy Corbin, d/b/a Corbin Construction Company, and Robert Goodwin Jr. and Robert Goodwin, d/b/a Goodwin Construction Company, alleges insufficient measures taken to prevent injuries.

Roy Leggett and Robin Leggett filed a complaint on July 28 in Preston Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that they violated the state and federal statutes, rules or regulations and commonly accepted safety standards.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on July 31, 2014, during Roy Leggett's employment with subcontractor Corbin Construction, while performing roofing work at an office construction site that was a project of contractor Goodwin Construction, he fell approximately 12 to 15 feet, causing him to sustain severe and compensable injuries that required medical attention. He also suffered pain in mind and body and loss of enjoyment of life, he claims. Robin Leggett alleges loss of consortium. The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to provide a safe place to work, failing to provide fall protection systems, failinig to provide proper training and supervision and failing to exercise ordinary and reasonable care for his safety.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against the defendants, jointly and severally, in an amount that is fair and equitable to compensate for injuries, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorneys' fees and such other relief as the court deems just and proper. They are represented by Timothy J. Manchin and Taylor B. Downs of Manchin Injury Law Group PLLC in Fairmont.
