WINFIELD — A horse trainer is suing farm owners Winsford Taylor and Jane Taylor, d/b/a Taylor Made Farm, alleging that insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries.
Michael Stephen Helm filed a complaint on July 28 in Putnam Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that they failed to provide a safe place to work.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on March 3, 2015, he was training a horse when the horse bucked and flipped over with him on it, causing him significant injuries that went unattended for a period of time. As a result of the defendants' actions, he alleges, he suffered further damages by not receiving worker's compensation benefits. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly requested that he use a false story to hide the accident; he also alleges that as an employee, he was wrongly denied worker's compensation coverage and was not compensated for his injuries.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant in excess of the minimum jurisdictional amount allowed by law, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, fees, costs and such other relief as the court may find appropriate. He is represented by W. Jacks Stevens, II of Stevens & Stevens, PLLC in Hamlin.
